Love Is In The Air - Week 4: Flowers, Flutters & More (Card 3 of 3)

A whole month to share all the love that is in the air!

During January, I will be featuring posts celebrating hugs, kisses, and Valentine wishes.

This week's focus is on flowers, flutters and more.

Cutie Pie

For the finale of the four-week long Love Is In The Air extravaganza, just one "more" thing....a cutie pie tag.

To create a small canopied cafe to enjoy a cup of love, a die cut tag (Tagged - Penny Black) was accented with another tag trimmed shorter, embossed with dots, and edged with scallop scissors.

Memento Luxe inks (Lilac Posies and Rose Bud) were blended with separate daubers to create the faded background.

The new transparent Valentine set (Ooh La La) by Penny Black holds all the fashionable designs to make this scene come alive. Each image was stamped on a separate piece of white cardstock in Onyx Black VersaFine and heat embossed with clear powder. After coloring with Copics, they were attached to the front of the prepared tag.

Thank you for celebrating a month of hearts, hugs and kisses with me!

Studio Sessions: Memento Luxe Ink, 3 of 4

Welcome to another day of inky fun with me and Jill!

For Day 3, I am using the Memento Luxe inks to color die cuts. The pigment ink is easy to blend and allows you to build color depth quickly.

Happiness Is Tag

Tag-Happines  Is..
Several components of the tag were die cut in multiples so elements could be elevated.  Two tags (Penny Black - Tagged) and two butterflies (Penny Black - Flutters) were die cut from white cardstock.

The main tag was left as is and had a festive ribbon attached and was stamped with a sentiment (Penny Black - Gratitude) in Onyx Black Versafine which was heat embossed with clear powder.  The second tag was trimmed and the lower portion was distressed with Pear Tart Memento Luxe and stamped with dots (Penny Black - Pointille) in Pistachio Memento Luxe.  Jumbo sponge daubers were used as ink applicators.

Both butterflies were colored/sponged with Memento Luxe in Dandelion, Love Letter and Lilac Posies.

Psst Sheer Shimmer Spritz
Before the dimensional butterfly was attached to the tag, it was sprayed with sparkle Psst Sheer Shimmer Spritz.

I don't want to ruin Jill's surprise, but a little birdie told me that she has another ATC to share today.

Penny Black & The Twinery

Ahoy and welcome to a special event.

collabo graphic

This week the Penny Black designers are infusing their projects with twine from The Twinery.

Sailor Boy Tag
This tag was die cut from white cardstock using Penny Black's Tagged Creative Dies.  Roman Surround was stamped in Aegean Blue VersaMagic and distressed with the same color ink.  Embossed lines on a white cardstock panel add textural interest behind the watercolored sailor boy from Ahoy (illustrated by Mo Manning).

Close Up

It was fun adding nautical accents with the Maraschino twine from The Twinery at the top of the tag and as part of the life ring.  The life ring was fashioned from a red piece of cardstock and wrapped at intervals with the bi-colored twine.

Click "here" to find out how you could win a Rainbow Sampler Pack from The Twinery that includes 15 yards of 22 fabulous colors.

More nautical fun coming soon...

"Tagged" (Tutorial)

With the holiday spirit growing and snowflakes falling, tags are wonderful accents to add festive greetings to gifts.

Holiday Penguin Tags

These tiny tags made with Penny Black stamps and Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko's inks were created in 6 holly-jolly steps.

This was also a make-n-take project I taught at the last CHA convention.

 Step 1
Step 1
Cut a 1 ¼ x 3-inch rectangle from Olive Grove Cardstock.
Round the top corners and punch a small hole at the top.
Measure 1 5/8 inches down from the top of the tag and make a 1/8” slit on each side.

Step 2
Step 2
Stamp Crystal Pattern on the tag with Pistachio Memento ink.

Step 3

Step 3
Stamp the circular sentiment from Winter Wishes with Crimson Red VersaFine
on a circular ring created with Spellbinders Standard Circles.

Step 4

Step 4
Stamp the penguin from A Cool Christmas on white cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine
and heat emboss with clear powder.  Color the image with Memento markers and trim.

Step 5

Step 5
Thread the tag through the ring and secure in the side notches.
Place a small amount of adhesive under the ring on the back of the tag
and insert a piece of dimensional foam under the front of the ring.

Holiday Penguin Tag
Step 6
Adhere the trimmed penguin to the tag with dimensional foam and add twine.

"Joyful Noise" Holiday Tag

Thank you for joining me today for a holiday tag created with a combination of various coloring mediums and crafting techniques!

I love the nostalgic feel that Gesso and acrylic paints give to this tiny tag.

Torn pieces of book text were randomly adhered to a small piece of cardboard (recycled from a cereal box) with Mod Podge.  Once the piece was dry, it was die cut with a Spellbinders Labels Eleven.

Gesso was randomly applied over the book text and snowflakes (Crystalline) were stamped with white acrylic paint.  Edging the tag with red acrylic paint defined the perimeter of the tag and added a touch of rustic distress.

Penny Black’s Joyful Noise (illustrated by Mo Manning) was stamped on a separate piece of white cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine and heat embossed with clear powder.  After the image had been colored it was fussy cut and attached to the tag with dimensional foam.

Special scheduling note....
I have a special collaborative post with more mixed media later this week....I can't wait to share the artist I have been working with!!

Smiles,
Elizabeth

Copic Markers
Dimensional Foam
Spellbinders: Labels Eleven (S4-246)
Tsukineko: Onyx Black VersaFine, Clear Embossing Powder

From Stamp to Epoxy Embellishment

I love the look of epoxy and the high gloss finish it lends to projects.  While making this gift tag, I infused the layers with multiple coats of embossing powder to capture that lacquer effect.

This project went together fabulously quick since Penny Black’s Round and Round is a perfect match with Spellbinders Standard Circles!  A few added fussy cuts and paper piercings gave the pieces a laser cut design.

Instructions:
  • Stamp Round and Round on white cardstock with Opera Pink VersaColor.  Heat emboss with clear powder.  Trim the outside edge with scissors and fussy cut the diamonds with a craft knife.  Paper pierce the small dots.
  • Pounce a Frost VersaMark ink pad directly onto the design to coat the image.   Sprinkle with clear embossing powder, tap off the excess and heat set.  Repeat this step two more times or until the desired thickness of melted embossing powder has been reached
  • Die cut circles from white cardstock to match the center and middle layers.  Follow the same procedure above to create the next two layers.  The middle layer is stamped in Orchid VersaColor and the top layer in Opera Pink.
  • Layer the pieces with dimensional foam and accent with a gem.  This crystal gem was colored with a Copic marker (RV 17) to coordinate with the project.
Tip/Hint:  This project can also be adapted to create holiday tree ornaments or jewelry.

If you would like to be "tagged" with more inspiration, be sure to visit the Penny Black Blog "here".

Elizabeth

Red, White & For You

Red, White & Blue!

With upcoming holiday festivities and fun we will be seeing this trio throughout the summer as we celebrate Flag Day, Fourth of July, the Olympics and much more.

That colorful combination inspired this small gift card/tag.

A speckled piece of cream cardstock stamped with Penny Black’s Circle Pattern in Pear Tart Memento created the patterned background.  The “cat in a bag” from Love London was then stamped in Onyx Black VersaFine and heat embossed with clear powder.  TIP/HINT:  This stamped impression will provide the fine lines of the whiskers and eliminate the need to trim them in the next step.

On a separate piece of white cardstock, the cat was stamped multiple times so various elements of the image could be colored, trimmed and layered.

An elevated base of white cardstock with a band of Cantaloupe Memento ink and a sentiment from Sweet Wishes stamped in black was positioned at the bottom.  The completed image from the previous step was then aligned with the first stamped impression and adhered with dimensional foam.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Elizabeth

Celebrate Tag

Whimsical fun with Penny Black stamps…

Finished Size: 2 1/2 x 4 1/4

The tag base is a 2 ½ x 4 ¼-inch piece of white cardstock.  The lower portion elevated with foam is a 1 ¼ x 2 ½-inch piece of Blue Lagoon cardstock stamped with Inspiring in Teal Zeal Memento ink.  The edges of the piece were softened with the same ink and a sponge dauber.

A highlighting of Cantaloupe Memento ink was added above the elevated teal strip and stamped with Fanciful in Pistachio Memento ink.

The balloon, banner and sentiment are all from Sweet Wishes and the frog is a portion of Toadily Happy.  After the images were stamped and colored they were trimmed and assembled as shown.

Tip/Hint:  To put a “wave” in the balloon string, turn the balloon one full rotation after both ends of the thread have been secured.  This will add a twist to the string and give the effect of movement.

There is a whole day of tag inspiration “here” by the Penny Black designers!  Enjoy taking a peek!

Coloring With Brushstixs (Tutorial & Video)

Hello Everyone!

Today I have a detailed tutorial with a video for this tag project featuring two of Penny Black’s new transparent sets (Flowers Sweet and Wishes) along with Tsukineko’s Brushstixs.

These mixed media brushes were released at CHA and come in a wide array of styles.  The foam tips are fabulous for all sorts of projects and applications.  Plus, they are washable.

Below are detailed instructions for the tag as well as a video included in Step 3 that shows how the Brushstixs were used for coloring.  Enjoy…..

Step 1:  Die cut an oval from white cardstock.  Leave the metal die over the cardstock and apply Sea Breeze VersaMagic ink with a jumbo sponge dauber.

Step 2: Remove the metal die and dust the cardstock with an anti-static pouch.  Stamp the flower and sentiment with Onyx Black VersaFine and heat emboss with clear powder.  Set aside.

Step 3:  On a separate piece of white cardstock, stamp the flower with Onyx Black VersaFine ink and heat emboss with clear powder.  Color with Brushstixs and Thatched Straw, Mango Madness and Red Magic VersaMagic inks.  For a visual reference using the Brushstixs, please view the video.

Note: The leaves on the main tag were also colored with Brushstixs, Aloe Vera VersaMagic and Tea Leaves VersaMagic.

Step 4: Trim the flower and spray with Sparkle Sheer Shimmer Spritz.

Step 5:  Align and attach the flower element to the prepared tag with dimensional foam.

Step 6:  Add a decorative ribbon.

Have a great weekend....

Holiday Tag & Ornament

With the holidays right around the corner, I have been setting aside gift tags.

I thought these would be fun gift adornments that could be transferred to the tree after the present had been opened.

Two die-cut circles mounted together with dimensional foam create the base of the tag.  From the front you can see the Fern Green die-cut circle was stamped with snowflakes and heat embossed in white.

The circular sentiment was stamped twice on white cardstock – once in red and a second time in black.  Both images were heat embossed with clear powder.  The black image was trimmed and distressed with Antique Linen before being layered with foam on top of the “fussy” cut red image.  The “gift” embellishment was created by stamping the present on white cardstock with Spanish Moss ink.   Lime green stickles were used for accenting as well as a red PITT pen.

The backside of the tag is a white cardstock die-cut edged with Delicata Golden Glitz ink and stamped with “to” and “from” which are a part of the transparent Airmail set.  For wool mittens, two sets of the mittens were stamped in red and heat embossed with clear powder.  Each mitten was painted with Duo Embellishing Adhesive.  After the adhesive dried, leaving a tacky surface, red crushed velvet flock was applied.

You can see more gift tag inspiration all this week on the Penny Black Blog as well as some of my past favorites "here".

These are also are great for cards!
