A Sweet Surprise

This birthday wish was made especially for my “mother-in-love”.  An endearing term I use to show my affection for her.

You may recognize this fashion girl, “Sweet Surprise”, from the 2011 Touch of Whimsy collection.

For part of the background I used a Penny Black Christmas sticker (Joy to the World 10-197) upside down!  Rotating the sticker positioned the ornate border along the left side giving balance to the design while also providing a fun base.  The remaining portion of the sticker, including the holiday sentiment, was trimmed away.

This is how I created the layers:
  • Create a 3 3/8 x 4 ½-inch card base from clear skies cardstock.
  • Cut a 3 x 4 1/8-inch piece of white cardstock and randomly apply Thatched Straw, Key Lime and Pink Grapefruit VersaMagic inks.
  • Mat with a 3 1/8 x 4 ¼-inch piece of white cardstock and adhere to the front of the prepared card.
  • Place the sticker on white cardstock, trim and apply to the front of the card with dimensional foam.
  • Stamp “Sweet Surprise” on white cardstock with black ink and heat emboss with clear powder.  Color and trim the image.  Attach to the card with dimensional foam.
  • Add a sentiment of your choice and accent the cake with glitter glue.

Thank you for visiting,

Elizabeth
