A Collage of Love

Today’s new release spotlighted on the Penny Black Blog “here” is the gorgeous collage “Sent With Love”.

The shape of this card was inspired by the outline of the cling stamp.

Once the image had been stamped on white cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine and heat embossed with clear powder, the outline of the stamp was traced and trimmed.

Watercolors created from Memento inks were used to color the image while highlights around the design were added with a sponge dauber and Teal Zeal, Pistachio and Peanut Brittle Memento inks.

Additional postage stamp elements were stamped separately, trimmed and added as dimensional elements.  To complement the raised stamps, the letters were also elevated.  For a more colorful combination than the original letters stamped in black from the first impression, a second set was stamped in Lilac Posies Memento.

The Fuchsia Fantasies cardstock base shaded with Lilac Posies Memento and Pink Petunia VersaMagic was stamped with the border from Lace Delight in black.  White accents from a gel pen were added to soften the design.

I will be back tomorrow with the last special release from the Penny Black 2012 Summer Catalog – A Flight ofThread!

Have a great day,
Elizabeth

Flower Garden Collage

When the Penny Black Design Team was tasked with selecting their favorite stamp to be showcased in a card my heart jumped then dropped.  How can you pick just one?!

I love Soft Wings (butterfly), but I also tucked in a few of my other favorite stamping elements.  You can see how the inside of the card was finished “here” on the Penny Black blog.

This is how I created each of the design elements:

Card Base:  Sticks & Stones (02-002) cardstock with the edges distressed in Peanut Brittle Memento and Vintage Sepia.

Black Mat:  Storm (01-003) cardstock edged with Delicata Golden Glitz ink.

Teal Mat:  Sea Breeze (08-003) cardstock stamped with Damask Pattern in Teal Zeal Memento ink.

Botanical Page:  Sticks & Stones (02-001) cardstock stamped with Flower Garden in Onyx Black VersaFine and heat embossed with clear powder.  Rip a small portion from the top of the image and distress the edges with Peanut Brittle Memento and Vintage Sepia VersaFine.

Paper Pieced Flower:  Flower Garden stamped on white cardstock in Vintage Sepia ink, heat set and trimmed. Highlights added with a white Prismacolor pencil and then watercolored with Pistachio and Lilac Posies Memento inks.  A small drop of gold StazOn inker was placed on a plastic surface and transferred to the edges of the trimmed piece with a Fantastix.

Medallion:  Scented Message stamped on white cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine and heat embossed with clear powder.  The trimmed medallion was water colored with Elderberry, Teal Zeal, Peanut Brittle, Pistachio and Morocco Memento inks.

Butterfly:  Soft Wings stamped on white cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine and heat embossed with clear powder.  The image was watercolored with Elderberry, Teal Zeal, Peanut Brittle, Morocco Memento inks.  You can view a video outlining watercoloring with Memento inks in this post here.

Hint/Tip:  For added sparkle, complete the final blending of colors with Sparkle Sheer Shimmer Spritz.  Thoroughly shake and mix the liquid and then pour a few drops onto a plastic surface and transfer with a brush.

Wishing you a creative day,
Elizabeth

Eternal Joy

I am very excited about this week’s “collage” challenge theme on the Penny Black Blog.  Their fabulously intricate stamp designs allow you to create stunning cards with a single impression.

Brilliance Pearlescent inks were randomly applied to white cardstock before the image was stamped in black.

A larger section beyond what was needed for the main image was also inked to provide an area to stamp the small star burst and die-cut it into a circle for the sentiment embellishment.

After trimming the design, it was sprayed with GooseBumps Clear Texture Spray for a “glass” effect.

The card based was sprayed with Pewter Sheer Shimmer Spritz and a few of the layers were edged in Delicata Golden Glitz before the elements were attached with dimensional foam.

You can view a sampling of other designs I created using Penny Black’s collage stamps here, here, here and here.

Thank you for sharing your time with me!

Elizabeth

Inked Collage

Sometimes the random application of inks and stamping can yield a quick yet deceptively intricate card.

A few Distress Inks applied to a non-stick craft sheet and misted with water provided an instant palette of color to cover the stamped cardstock.

To give the panels an elegant finish, they were pounced with VersaMark Watermark ink and heat embossed with clear powder.

Add an elevated sentiment with brads and you have a finished card!

Detailed Instructions
  • Randomly stamp Butterfly Suite on a 3 ½ x 4 ½-inch piece of watercolor paper with Jet Black StazOn ink.
  • Rub three colors of Distress Ink (Dusty Concord, Peeled Paint, Spicy Marmalade) next to each other on a non-stick craft sheet and mist with water.
  • Press the stamped artwork into the inks rotating after each impression to cover the surface.  A heat tool can be used to speed the drying time and also move puddles of ink into interesting patterns.
  • Cut into three panels.  Cover each panel with VersaMark Watermark Ink.   Sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat set.  Edge each panel with Gold Metallic StazOn.
  • Mounting the panels to a 3 ½ x 4 5/8-inch piece of watercolor paper helps space the panels evenly and provides a single surface to apply the sentiment banner.
  • Stamp the sentiment with black pigment ink and heat emboss with clear powder.  Edge with gold ink.  Apply dimensional foam to the center of the sentiment and adhere to the panel.  Add a brad at each end through all the cardstock layers and secure.
  • Attach the artwork with dimensional foam to a 3 7/8 x 5-inch card base that has been edged in Antique Linen Distress Ink.

I can’t express enough how much I appreciate the time you spend with me!!  I hope you are inspired to “smoosh” some ink today.

Thank you for visiting,
Elizabeth
